The lead image here was shot in Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas, NM right after the sun went completely down. The red glow of the setting sun was beautiful to see and helped to create the diffused lighting effect on the mountains themselves as well as the desert in the foreground. I love being in the field with my camera and my tripod hunting for these unexpected opportunities.

This image was made of me while I was shooting the image of the fishing vessel on the Commercial Page of this site. The location was Prince William Sound Alaska and we based out of Cordova, Alaska. The setting there was simply idyllic and beautiful. I was in Alaska to shoot the Salman Fishing Industry with the folks from Trident Seafood.

This is an image of me with my favorite camera the Leica M10. I like the Leica M for shooting people due to its small size, quiet shutter and because it leaves my left eye available for looking at the subject. People like seeing others eyes. It helps with trust which is a crucial element of getting a good shot. The image quality is simply outstanding.

This photo was taken with the help of Trident Seafood headquartered in Seattle, Wa. Joe Bundrant, CEO of Trident worked with me and the team from Zone3Creative and provided access to fishing vessels focused on the salmon industry. I shot this image at Cordova, Ak and it was later used on Sysco Corporation’s seafood themed trucks. It is truly a beautiful setting there and an experience I will never forget.

This was shot at the Houstonian Hotel and Spa in Houston, Texas and is of the leadership team of Sysco Corporation. I believe it is my responsibility to make every person whose image I make as appealing as possible. So rather than taking a camera with a single speedlight (which is the typical way most shots like this are taken) I hauled a load of studio lights along with the requisite stands and light modifiers to the location. In the end the Chairman of Sysco at that time was very pleased with her photograph.

This shot was taken in the kitchen of a fine restaurant in the Woodlands, Tx. Kitchen operations in a busy restaurant are as demanding and complex as any operation you will ever encounter. In additional, you may or may not know that the hospitality industry is the single largest employer in the United States.

This is a photo of me shooting from a mountain vantage point overlooking Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The city extends across a large valley and makes for an impressive panorama.

Navarre Beach Pier, the longest fishing pier on the Gulf Coast is shrouded in fog during an early morning sunrise. The combination of fog and mist, the shadow of the pier and the dominance of the sunrise makes for a strong expression of nature and man.

Headshots are generally considered boring and just something that people want to get through. I engage with clients in such a way to bring out their best qualities. I want a person to appear happy, confident and approachable. This gentleman is a great example of all three qualities coming together to make a successful image.

My daughter and I hiked a about 45 minutes to get to these dunes where the Florida sunset is perfectly framed by the grasses and the sand. The flight of three pelicans completes the feeling of peace one experiences when placed near the ocean, sand, sun and seabirds. This image was shot on a Hasselblad 501CM with a CFV50 digital back near Destin Florida which provides for deep shadow detail as well as a pleasing transition to the highlights.

Taken in Honduras in the mountains surrounding Tegucigalpa, this young girl is the very expression of the confining prison of poverty. Her eyes and facial expression are juxtaposed against her t-shirt which calls for love and attention. She seems to wonder if her whole life will be spent behind this poverty framing fence.

On this site, I have fine art for sale. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of prints here goes to help support the work this mission performs. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the work is effective and worthwhile. Images of the girls don’t appear on the site due to security concerns. I met 14 year old girls who will be testifying against their abusers in a Honduran court. No doubt these people would be more than happy to ensure they never have that opportunity.

My goal with these images is to provide a small glimpse into the general living conditions I encountered there and help to set the context for the environment of poverty that pervades the area. Honduras is a beautiful country geographically but corruption and the resulting economic hardships creates an environment where basic respect for human dignity is sometimes overlooked.

These images were all shot in Honduras as part of an assignment for a mission there named Casa de Ester. Casa has a safe house where young girls who have been subjected to sexual and physical abuse as well as being victims of the sex trafficking industry are rehabilitated and made able to have full and happy lives.

Bill DeLaney, Chairman and CEO of Sysco had decided to retire and is their tradition it was time for a heirloom portrait. This image was created right in Bill’s office. Proofs were printed as fully edited 8 x 10’s and taken to his office for the final selection. In this image Bill’s thoughtful and intelligent inner nature is clearly revealed. The final image was printed on canvas, lacquer coated and mounted on 1/8 inch Masonite. The portrait hangs in the Sysco Corporate office today along with the portraits of every other Sysco Chairmen and CEO’s.

While in Alaska shooting for Sysco I had the opportunity to go out to where the salmon fishing was actually taking place. I was positioned on a “tender”, which is a large crab fishing vessel used for collecting salmon during the crab off season, and as the Miss Molly drew nearer I could see that there was a young lady on the front of the boat. What I didn’t realize was that there are many of the salmon fishing boats in Alaska that have all, or nearly all, female crews. I went out with one such crew and Ii can tell you they operate as a well-oiled machine or perhaps an expertly choreographed dance troupe. The work is incredibly physical and demanding.
